From a YouTube video Watch the original
Ingredients
- Kosher salt
- Crisco or vegetable oil
Instructions
- To remove rust and debris from your cast iron pan, use a chain mail scrubber or kosher salt. Scrub the pan with the salt until the rust is gone.
- Rinse the pan with warm soapy water and dry it thoroughly with a towel or paper towels.
- Grease the pan with Crisco or vegetable oil and bake it in the oven at 350°F for an hour to polymerize the oil and create a non-stick coating.
- To clean the pan after use, wipe out any big chunks with a paper towel and rinse it with warm soapy water. Dry the pan thoroughly and store it with a light coating of oil on the cooking surface.
