Ingredients
- Tofu
- Buttermilk (or plant-based yogurt/sour cream)
- Distilled vinegar or apple cider vinegar
- Corn flakes (or bread crumbs/corn flour)
- Whole wheat flour (or gluten-free flour blend, oat flour, almond flour)
- Butter (or olive oil, neutral flavor nut butter)
- Cayenne pepper
- Hot sauce
Instructions
- Prepare the tofu by cutting it into cutlets or breaking it apart for an organic look.
- Create a buttermilk-based marinade with vinegar to tenderize the tofu. Alternatively, use a plant-based yogurt or sour cream with added vinegar.
- Use a food processor to create a breading mixture with corn flakes or substitute with bread crumbs/corn flour.
- Coat the tofu in the marinade and flour mixture twice for a thick crust.
- Bake the tofu until crispy and let it sit for 10-15 minutes after removing from the oven.
- Prepare the sauce by melting butter (or using olive oil/nut butter) and mixing in cayenne pepper and hot sauce.
- Brush or spoon the sauce over the tofu before serving. Adjust heat level by modifying cayenne pepper and hot sauce amounts.
