In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder.
In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk, vanilla extract, warmed egg, and melted butter.
Combine the wet and dry ingredients until just mixed, avoiding over-mixing.
Heat a non-stick pan on low heat and add a little butter for lubrication.
Pour about a third of a cup of batter for smaller pancakes and half a cup for larger ones onto the pan.
Cook until bubbles form on the surface, then carefully flip the pancakes.
Cook until both sides are golden brown.
Serve with maple syrup and butter on top.
