Mix one packet of unflavored gelatin with two tablespoons of cold water. Wait for one minute.
Stir in one-third of a cup of boiling water until the gelatin is completely dissolved.
Add two cups of birdseed to the gelatin mixture and coat the birdseed evenly.
Fill individual cupcake liners or a muffin tin with the mixture. If using a muffin tin, spray with non-stick spray.
If hanging the cakes, cut lengths of string and place them in the cups before filling with the mixture.
Fill the cups halfway with the mixture, place a piece of string if hanging, and continue filling with the remaining mixture.
Refrigerate the cakes overnight.
Remove the cakes from the liners and hang them in your yard to attract birds.
Use the Merlin Bird Guide app or field guides to identify the birds that visit your yard.
