Red Lentil Curry (Musur Dal)

Ingredients
- 1 cup red lentils
- 3 cups hot water
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Ginger
- 4 cloves of garlic
- 1 large onion
- Red chili powder (optional)
- Ground coriander (dhania) powder
- Oil
- Cumin seeds (jeera)
- Tomatoes
- Coriander leaves
- Green chili
- Ghee
- 1 dry red chili
- Red chili powder
Instructions
- Wash red lentils until water runs clear. In a pressure cooker, add red lentils, hot water, turmeric powder, and salt. Pressure cook for 10 minutes.
- In a bowl, make a spice paste with red chili powder, turmeric powder, and ground coriander by adding water and mixing.
- In a pan, heat oil and add cumin seeds. Add chopped onions, ginger, garlic, and the spice paste. Stir and add chopped tomatoes, coriander stems, and green chili.
- Add the cooked lentils to the pan, adjust consistency with hot water, and simmer for 5 minutes. Adjust seasoning.
- In a separate pan, heat ghee and add dry red chili, sliced garlic. Once garlic browns, remove from heat, add a pinch of red chili powder, and pour over the dal.
- Serve the dal garnished with coriander leaves.
