Whole Wheat Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp instant yeast
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1 cup dates
- 2 tbsp cinnamon
- Milk for brushing
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the whole wheat flour and salt.
- Add the instant yeast to the warm milk and stir until dissolved. Pour the mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients and mix well.
- Add the applesauce, egg, and maple syrup to the bowl and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough until it bounces back.
- Let the dough rise for about an hour.
- Roll the dough into a large rectangle.
- Soak the dates in hot water for a few minutes, then blend them with cinnamon until smooth.
- Spread the date mixture over the dough, then roll it up and slice it into pieces.
- Place the pieces in a tray and proof for 45 minutes.
- Brush the rolls with milk, then bake for 25 minutes.
