Ingredients:
- 1 whole green cabbage
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 jar (approximately 24 oz) tomato basil sauce
- 1 cup cottage cheese
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese
- shredded mozzarella cheese
- fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Cabbage: Start with one whole green cabbage. Quarter the cabbage, separate the leaves, and boil the cabbage leaves in a large pot of water for 3 minutes. Using tongs, remove the boiled cabbage leaves from the water and set them aside to drain.
- Prepare the Meat Sauce: In a large skillet, cook 1 lb of ground beef until browned. Drain any excess grease, then add one jar of tomato basil sauce to the skillet with the ground beef. Add salt, black pepper, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and chicken bouillon. Stir to combine and cook until fully simmered.
- Prepare the Cottage Cheese Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of cottage cheese, 1 egg, and 1/3 cup of Parmesan cheese. Add a little black pepper and mix all ingredients together thoroughly.
- Assemble the Lasagna: Spoon a thin layer of the meat sauce into the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange a layer of the blanched cabbage leaves over the meat sauce, then add a layer of meat sauce over the cabbage leaves. Spread a layer of the cottage cheese mixture over the meat sauce, sprinkle some shredded mozzarella cheese over the cottage cheese mixture, and repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of cabbage, meat sauce, and a generous topping of shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Bake the Lasagna: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the assembled baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Serve: Carefully remove the baked lasagna from the oven, garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired, let it rest for a few minutes before serving, and serve individual portions onto plates.
